The Lobkowicz Map Collection

April 27 – June 17, 2018

The exhibition features the selection of old maps, plans and geographical atlases from the collection of the Hořín-Mělník branch of the Lobkowicz family. This collection, including cartographic manuscripts and prints from the period 1579-1880, was purchased by the Czechoslovak state in 1928 together with the Prague Lobkowicz Library. Now they are kept in the collections of the Manuscript and Early Printed Books Department, National Library of the CR.
Displayed are some of the oldest cartographic colour copper engravings, early lithographies, or first language maps and probably the oldest printed railway map on the territory of Habsburg monarchy. Displayed are also manuscript maps of the Lobkowicz estates, made in collaboration with significant cartographers of the 19th century, and also maps connected with the life and work of the Lobkowicz family abroad.

The Medieval Book at your Fingertips

April 6 – 19, 2018

Photogallery

The unique exhibition presents the work of the Tempus Libri company to the public. The company is for long specialised in producing artistic copies of rare historical originals. The edition of such facsimiles is usually low, very often less than 200 copies of each work. The quality of workmanship, choice of materials and corresponding compliance with the original is supervised by its owners or professional managers, who provided reproduction rights to make a faksimile. Visitors will be allowed to look at and even browse through the facsimiles of rare manuscripts and incunables, mainly of Czech origin. The exposition will be complemented with originals of some early printed books.

Invitation - Photogallery

A panel exhibition, included in the project supported by the European Union through the regional development fund, presents the extensive and diverse work of sculptor Vincenz Pilz (1816-1896). His works were intended mostly for public spaces. He made a bust of P. J. Šafařík for the Prague university library, the copy of which was placed in the Panthenon of the National Museum. Czech Authors in Persian Translations – Literary Art and Professional Works, Translated and Published in Iran
March 15 – April 28, 2018

Invitation - Opening ceremony

An exhibition documenting how the Iranian public gradually looks for and builds up the relation to Czechoslovak and later Czech culture through the mediation of translations of Czech authors into Persian. It is surprising and pleasing at the same time that such a small country can be proud of so many translations into so formally and geographically distant language.
