Find maps

Maps published after 1800 are part of the NL modern library collections, a part of the map collections is kept in the Manuscript and Early Printed Books Department and is gradually transferred to particular NL departments in order to catalogue its items and store them.

Online sources

We recommend to search the requested map in the following online sources, in case you did not succeed in finding the searched map in any of the given sources  you can check card catalogues and printed sources  mentioned in column on the right side.

Online NL catalogue - NKC/Maps searching
The words typed-in  are searched in various fields of the record, more exact wording of the query can be put directly in the base NKC/Maps.

Scanned General catalogues I-III searching (catalogues contain data up to 1995)
(if you know author or title - in case the searched document has no author)

Manuscriptorium - open catalogue of historical collections searching 
Includes records of some old maps of the National Library and other institutions and also digital copies  of some maps.

Old Maps on Internet

Old Maps of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia are made accessible via internet by the Laboratory of Geoinformatics, University of  J.E.Purkyně, Ústí nad Labem - it concerns the 1st and  2nd Military Surveys, Müller´s Survey, and the Stabile Cadaster (partly catalogued). In case of using a map from this source for publishing, the source must be cited in the publication - instructions for citing are to be found on the home page of the Presentation of old maps covering the area of Czechia, Moravia and Silesia)

TIP: Don´t forget, that maps are published not only separately but also in atlases, in such case only the name of atlas can be found in a catalogue.
