What Does It Mean?
February 1 - March 22, 2024
Polish and Czech are close languages from the same West Slavic group, we often understand each other well and learning the basics is not difficult. However, sometimes the words that sound the same are completely different in meaning. We call them false friends. The travelling exhibition sheds light on some tricky words we have to watch out for in Polisch-Czech conversation. The exhibition commemorates the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Polish Studies at Charles University. It was cerated in 2023 thanks to the cooperation of the Polish Institute in Prague and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in CR with Natálie Rejková and Adrianna Arłukowicz, students of Polish Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University.

The Depiction of Biblical Stories in Renaissance Illuminations
January 8 - March 28, 2024
The panel exhibition features selected music manuscripts, hymnals and graduals from the NL collections, used in congregational singing at town churches in the 16th century. They were made to order of wealthy and educated burgers, craft guilds or representatives of nobility, whose portraits, coat-of-arrms or guild signs were depicted on individual folios. The illuminations themselves thus represent a sampler of biblical iconography.
