Newspaper collection of the Slavonic Library (Grant for 2002-2004)

Novinová sbírka Slovanské knihovny. Kompletace, zpracování a mikrofilmování části unikátní sbírky bývalého Ruského zahraničního archivu.
Newspaper collection of the Slavonic Library. Completion, cataloguing and microfilming of a part of the unique collection of the former Russian Historical Archive Abroad.

Duration: 2002-2004

In 2002, the Slavonic Library received three-year grant in total amount of 1.211.000 CZK from Grantová agentura ČR. In the framework of the project, the Slavonic Library microfilmed part of its periodical collection, namely the newspapers acquired after 1945 from the collection of the dissolved Russian Historical Archive Abroad. These newspapers, very often of very poor quality, were assembled, catalogued and microfilmed. There were more than 150.000 pages processed in the framework of this project.

In the first two years, we have processed primarily the newspapers from the period of the revolution and the civil war in Russia (roughly the period 1917-1922). At the end of the second and in the third year we turned to the processing of the émigré periodicals (newspapers mostly of Russian and to lesser degree also of the Ukrainian exile in Europe, Asia and the Americas in the period roughly from 1920s till the Second World War).

We processed periodicals up to the size 60 x 45 cm due to the limits of the cameras of the Micrographic Department of the National Library located in Hostivař.

This project takes up the work done in the framework of the shared grant of the Open Society Fund and Grantová agentura ČR in 1998-1999 (for details, see here).

The following lists contain periodical titles microfilmed in the framework of the grant of the Grantová agentura ČR in the given year (the subdivision into thematic groups is approximate):
