Collection profile: The National Library is the largest and one of the oldest public libraries in the country. It collects, preserves and provides access to Bohemica materials published here and elsewhere in the world. It has rich collections of foreign language publications, primarily in the humanities and social and natural sciences.
Autonomous part of the National Library is the Slavonic Library with its outstanding collection of materials relating to Slavic nations, especially in history, philology and political science, and a choice of original literary works in Slavonic languages. Amongst the private collections the Slavonic Library has acquired over the years, is a fragment of Petersburg bookseller and publisher A.F. Smirdin's library.
